Normally your skin cells undergo a natural turnover every month or so. When this occurs, the outer layer of your skin (the epidermis) sheds and reveals new skin underneath (the dermis). Your skin grows up from deep in your skin. As the top layer sheds, the lower skin cells move up and new ones are created below.
However, as we grow older, shedding slows down and dead skin cells don’t fully shed, creating the appearance of rough, dry skin, enlarged pores and dullness. You can improve your skin’s tone and texture by exfoliating.
Also, when you have layers of dead skin cells, they can create a barrier so that your skin care products can't get down into the skin where they are needed to work.
If you have oily skin, the oil mixes with the dead skin cells and can clog pores and cause breakouts.
Exfoliation is very important for good skin care and Mary Kay has excellent exfoliators to choose from.
It's an advanced exfoliator using key exfoliating ingredients used by dermatologists to immediately energize skin by effectively removing dead skin cells from inside and around the edges of pores.
Keep it in the shower to quickly grab and scrub while you're taking a shower. Your face needs to be wet when using it.
Microdermabrasion Refine - $36
It significantly reduces the visible number of pores and gives you close-up-confident skin.
Pore Minimizer - $28
Exfoliation is espeically critical as we age. Dead skin cells can clog our pores, cause milia, give us an uneven, rough skin texture, and adds a barrier so that our skin care products can't get down into the skin where they do their work.
Our Revealing Radiance Facial Peel is an extension of the Repair Set, but can be used with the Miracle or Men's Set, too. It is to be used 2-3 times per week. After cleansing, you apply a layer of Facial Peel. Allow it to work for 10 minutes and then rinse it off.
Revealing Radiance Facial Peel is a light cream exfoliant that helps dissolve dead skin cells three layers deep. When dead cells are removed, it speeds up the rate of new cells created and pushed up to the surface, revealing younger looking skin.
Ruby had lots of melasma and sun damage. At the time she was using our skin care and added Revealing Radiance Facial Peel and a product that was replaced with our newer Brightener Booster and Serum C+E. She has had even greater results now that she's added the more potent Brightener Booster, the Serum C+E and Retinol 0.3.
Facial Peel - $68
I like to call the Resurfacer Booster as "Baby Retinol." If you're not ready for the Pure Retinol, then this is the product for you. It's not as effective as pure retinol, but it is still an amazing product. If you are using the Retinol 0.3 product, then you do not need the Resurfacer Booster.
The Resurfacer Booster dissolves dead skin cells and breaks the bonds holding the dead skin cells with two powerful prescription-strength hydroxy acids. The surface of your skin will be smoother as you use this powerful booster.
You can use the Resurfacer Booster on your neck and decolletage. Your
neck may be more sensitive to retinol than your face, so the Resurfacer Booster is a great alternative.
This product is used 2-3 times a week at night after cleansing and toning and before moisturizing. Because it can make your skin sensitive to the sun, you need to be sure you wear a facial sunscreen during the day, such as Daytime Defender or the Mineral Facial Sunscreen.
Resurfacer Booster - $38
