⛺Make Cooking Outdoors Easy!

Whether you're in a tent or a camper, skip putting your junky cooking tools in your food box & add ones that will actually #MakeItEasy!

Let's start by making you hungry with these great recipes that can be made camping.

Some over the fire, some not.

⛺#WeMakeItEasy Tip!

I'm a huge fan of prep work at home & bringing frozen ingredients when possible.

If you are worried about using a cooler,

the frozen ingredients will help things stay cold and will probable start to thaw as you are ready to use them.

Southwestern Salad

Bring shredded lettuce & our Avocado Tool to help make this easy.

Baked Beans

campfire or slow cooker

I bring cooked bacon, cooked ground beef, and onion already chopped. #wemakeiteasy

Apple Berry Salsa

I eat it with a spoon or with cinnamon graham crackers - also great over ice cream or on pancakes.

Pico de gallo

Loaded Potato Wedges

Just like tater tots or tortilla chips, load them up with whatever you love!

Grilled Loaded Nachos

Grilling the chips will bring out so much flavor!  If you are doing this over a campfire with cast iron or our Rockcrok (remember, Rockcroks can only have indirect heat, no flames), tent foil over it to trap the heat and melt the cheese. I layer toppings over chips and then add additional layers depending on how many people I'm feeding.  Don't worry about the ingredients in the recipe, just use ones you enjoy!

Eggs in Shamrock

How fun to do while camping!

Use any color pepper.

Grilled Banana Boats

We don't have the rack anymore, but you can do this with a cast iron or Rockcrok pan and have crumbled foil in between each one to hold them up.

Smore Dip

Do I have to say anything?

Raspberry Tequila Sangria

Mexican Street Corn Dip

Tip: use frozen corn - you can even make at home & just heat at camp

hehe

Burrito Bowl

These are great for camping - bring your choice of meat already cooked & shredded if necessary, plus the rice (try quinoa!) already cooked. Fast simple dinner.  Perfect when

no time to cook over the fire.

Tater Tot Casserole

Tots are so versatile when camping.  Breakfast bakes, skillet meals, snacks with or without toppings.

Try them loaded with pulled pork you brought from home, queso, green onions, and any other topping.  OR sloppy joe mix, shredded cheese and sour cream!

Beer Bread

Great to make ahead of time and take along.

Blackened Cod with

Grilled Pineapple

Bring the Pineapple Wedger along!

Grilled pineapple is amazing!

Corned Beef Hash - cheat & pick up some deli corned beef - ask for a slab so you can cube it!

Mini Fruit Cobblers

Hmmmm, cherry or apple sounds good. What about you?

Skillet Brownies

So good and easy to make GF too, just find a GF mix.

Real Lemonade - YUM

You will love it!

Add a splash of lime juice or even some fresh raspberries to increase flavor options.

Can we have S'more???

Are you traditional or adventurous?

Which flavors will you try

the next time you are around a campfire?

And more importantly, how do you do your marshmallows?

Burned or toasted? 🤣

#teamtoasted

⛺ Delight the kiddos with a fun spin on traditional marshmallow treats.

Using your favorite recipe, swap in toasted oat marshmallow cereal (such as Lucky Charms) in place of the crispy rice cereal.

Get extra festive with a pop of green food coloring.

Extra bonus:

Add a cup of melted peanut butter & some chocolate chips to the marshmallow just before you add the cereal.  YUM

Line the pan with parchment paper so you can lift out and cut.  Won't scratch your pan up and keeps it clean!

Psst: Cutting these with our Crinkle Cutter is really easy!

I'm a HUGE fan of ingredient prep work - while cooking outdoors is part of the fun & experience of camping,

sometimes we are busy having fun and we want the option to have dinner faster.

This is where my Deluxe Multi Cooker comes in.  At home, I use the sous vide setting on steaks, chicken, or chops so they are perfectly cooked. I leave them in the bag they cooked in and bring along. Then when I'm ready to start dinner, I only have to heat it over the fire. Let's me get dinner done quickly with no worries about if the food is over or under cooked. And I still get grill marks and taste!

Check out sous vide here,

it is great for both home and camping!

Here are some additional cooking tips that might be helpful!

⛺ Prepped Ingredients

Ten things I do or buy at the store to Make it Easy.

I have a freezer in my camper, but if you know you are going to eat these things, a cooler works well too - it is ok if they start to thaw.

  1. Frozen package of chopped onion (Manual Food Processor), so many uses - baked beans, foil packets, scrambled eggs.....
  2. Frozen pre-cooked ground beef - I can use this for baked beans, taco meat, or sloppy joes
  3. A pound of pre cooked cut up bacon - I often get it at salad bars - price is about the same as buying and cooking yourself.  Great for baked beans or to add to salads or loaded tots.
  4. A bag of frozen mixed veggies - perfect for adding to foil packs or as a dinner side dish.
  5. Bags of tater tots or fries. Use as side dish, egg bake, loaded tots (I do a Mexican version & a Sloppy Joe version)
  6. Queso that I made in my Cooking Blender.  For nachos or on top of tots/fries.
  7. Double batch of rice krispie treats - grab and go snack or dessert.
  8. French Onion Dip (PC seasoning). Great for veggie or chip snack or with baked potatoes.
  9. Salad - either bring a bag (the salad in a bag packages come with toppings and dressing) or I try to make time to cut up a few heads of Romaine (store in a zip loc with a sheet of paper towel and leave slightly open.) Add a container of cut up veggies from salad bar and a bag of baby carrots and you are set.
  10. Bags of shredded cheese - there is always some use for this - salads, taco dip, scrambled eggs. I love freshly shredded cheese, but sometimes the bags have their place - I buy the thick shreds vs the thin so I don't get as much cellulose (it dries out the cheese).

Some of the foods that make cooking easy while camping!

What do you do ahead of time to Make it Easy?

⛺ These products will help you make delicious meals easily and quickly.

With the exception of the cast iron (a camping MUST!),

I focus on lightweight tools for your camper or kitchen box.

Professional Shears

You will use these for everything.

Cutting open bags or cutting up foods.

5" Santoku Knife

You need one really good knife when you camp, and this is it.

German forged steel and lifetime guarantee.

Manual Food Processor

Onions or any vegetable, fruits, nuts, salsas and more.

Mixing Bowl Set

Lightweight with silicone bottoms.

They nest inside each other to save space. Great for serving or cooking.

All Purpose Spreader

Perfect for butter, peanut butter, cream cheese, egg salad, mayo and more. Plus has a serrated edge to cut breads and other basic foods.

Salad Chopper

Or as consultants call it:

The Choppy Choppy

Honestly I use it to shred meat more than salad, but the versatility makes it worth the space in my camper.

Grill Pan & Press

I keep one of these in the camper so when the weather is too bad to use the campfire we can still grill the foods we brought along.

I can't use the pan on the campfire, but I could use the Grill Press if I wanted to.

Flexible Cutting Mats

These are the larger ones but we have small ones too - silicone backed so they don't slide around. Lightweight & they are so slim you can store them almost anywhere.

Scrapers

I recommend a Small Mix N Scraper & a Mini Mix N Scraper. These are heat safe to 650F + easy to clean.

Microwave Popcorn Popper

OK, so this only works if you have a camper, but so worth it!  I hated cleaning the campfire popper, and this one is so easy! Plus it doubles as an extra bowl if I need one and collapses for easy storage.

HINT: it also comes in family size

Smooth Edge Can Opener

The last place you need sharp edges is camping.  Perfect every time.

Cut N Store Containers

At home or camping, these are great. Rectangle so you have more interior space and they fit neatly in the refrigerator.  Microwave safe and the lids are made out of our cutting board material so they double as cutting boards.

2-Qt Sauce Pan

It is crazy how many things I use this for - there is always something.

Medium Stone Bar Pan

I have a camper with an oven so I love this for grilled nachos on a rainy day or for those preshaped cookies you can buy?  Make individual cookies or put all the cookie dough on the stone and just make bars.

Cherry & Olive Pitter

Great for snacks or campfire desserts. And if you camp in Door County, WI they are a must!

Corn Holders

They even come in their own case - so helpful.  I love making corn over  a fire! Husk, rinse, sprinkle with seasoning (I like PC's Bell Pepper N Herb Rub), wrap in wet paper towel, then foil.  Place on grill, medium indirect heat, 7-9 minutes on each side.  Do these before you cook your main dish - they will stay warm wrapped up in the foil until you eat.

Silicone Oven Mitts

We actually have 3 different types of these: Microgrips, Mini Mitts, and these 'full hand' ones.  I love them all because I can pick up anything and wipe them off if they get dirty.

Burger & Slider Press

While pre-made patties have their place, this press is great when you want to add 'extras' to your patties and take them up a notch!

Cool N Serve Collection

I use the little square for road trip treats. The others are great to set out anything and you can keep the covers on to keep out the bugs. You can even take them to the pool or lake. Foods stay cold for 4-6 hours.

Nesting Silicone Trivets

A set of 3 that stack is helpful.

And the really thick heavy ones are perfect for cast iron - they can handle the heat. Wipe off if they get dirty.

Pantry

Our pantry items are full of amazing flavor.  My camping favorites include Peppercorn & Garlic, French Onion, 3-Onion, Southwestern, Garlic, Bell Pepper & Herb, Rotisserie, Applewood (BBQ), Guacamole, and Garlic N Parmesan.

Psst: they are all made in WI

If I want a baked treat - you will always win with the Pretzel Mix and the Caramel Latte Bread (I make as muffins)

Pick the flavors YOU like!

Micro-cookers

Pick 1 or have all 3 - they nest.

Great as extra serving bowls or to heat anything. I have the 3-Qt in my camper because it let's me do pasta or rice without making a mess.  Hubby also uses it to heat cans of soup or oatmeal.

1, 2, or 3 Quart with vented lids.

Silicone Prep Bowls

The 1, 2 and 3 cup bowls with lids nest for storage and are heat safe to 400F so can be used in the microwave or oven.  Great for mixing, storing, heating.

The 1-Cup is perfect for melting butter for popcorn, & the 2-Cup is perfect for dips.

COOKING Blender

Where are my margarita peeps or the ones who love their shakes?

Grab your Cooking Blender to make those and more - remember, it has a heating element so you can COOK foods (think fresh queso or soup with a push of a button) along with making yummy frozen cocktails!

2-horsepower

Chef's Silicone Basting Brush

Great for coating pans with oil or brushing on sauce.

The hook on the side keeps it from sinking into your bowl and getting messy.

 RockCroks

Their versatility is what makes these a bid deal. The Rockcrok is safe on the stove, in the oven, under the broiler, in the microwave, and on a grill. It can also be used on the fire if there are no flames  - heat safe to 752F.  The large round one can be used for eggs/bacon at breakfast, grilled cheese at lunch, nachos for a snack, and delicate fish or veggies or pizzas at dinner.  Scroll down to see a video that highlights it.

Cast Iron Collection

Pick the pieces that work for you - cast iron and camping go together!

The round ones have higher sides to allow for stirring and more food.  Clean up really is easy and I give you an entire booklet filled with recipes and tips.

Utensil Scrubber

Make everything easy to clean and stay safe with your sharp knives. Opens flat and also works great on edges of a pan.

Indoor Outdoor Portable Grill

Perfect for those camping trips where you can use it with charcoal OR with electricity.

Converts in about 60 seconds.

Coating Trays

Going to bread anything?  Maybe you are fishing? These are great for that, lightweight, nesting, and can double as serving bowls/trays or even eating bowls - I use them for salads.

On-the-Go Serving Bowls

Coming June 1st!

Perfect for outdoor activities!

Dutch Oven RockCrok

with Slow Cooker Stand

This is a workhorse for any camping trip we do. The Rockcrok is safe on the stove, in the oven, under the broiler, in the microwave, and on a grill. It can also be used on the fire if there are no flames  - heat safe to 752F.  Transfer to the Slow Cooker Stand for serving, warming, to finish cooking, or as a slow cooker.

Baked Beans, chili, desserts, Keeps food coming off the grill warm, + more.

See more about how you can use our Rockcroks Camping.
